For company runs and similar sporting events, which are known to be attended by spontaneous people who decide to take part, it has proven to be a good idea to pre-print some start numbers in the event design, but with a sufficiently large free space: The Tyvek® material is easy to write on with waterproof markers. This means you can easily accept registrations shortly before the start, label the Tyvek® start number plate in accordance with the rules, for example with the name of the person registering – and off you go! Because it would be a shame if someone couldn’t take part just because they didn’t have a start number, wouldn’t it?!

Material science Tyvek®: the “miracle material” from which our race numbers are made

Tyvek® is manufactured using a complex process from tightly bonded polyethylene microfibres. The material is incredibly versatile in its possible uses: Due to its high stability and tear resistance despite its paper-like feel, it is used in trade fairs and events, for example, or even in all-inclusive hotels for water-resistant entry wristbands – most people have actually come across the material here before.

In addition to entry wristbands, start numbers and the like, Tyvek® is also used in the laboratory sector, for example: Since the nonwoven fabric is so compressed that – unlike many other fabric materials – it loses almost no fibers and is antistatic, Tyvek® is used to make suits and caps for clean rooms and laboratories, for example.

The breathable but spray-resistant spunbond is also ideal for painting work and similar and is therefore used to make appropriate protective clothing. But that’s not all: Tyvek® can also be used in the construction industry, for example as a second roof covering for buildings. It is also used as a sterile goods packaging material – and the list goes on. Our conclusion: Yes, this Tyvek® material really is a kind of miracle nonwoven fabric!
