Aluminium composite panels – our little material science for you

All aluminum composite panel manufacturers rely on the sandwich structure of the classic Alu-Dibond from 3A. Two cover layers of white painted aluminum cover a core of black polyethylene, a plastic. The plastic core saves weight and the aluminum cover layers provide the necessary stability and at the same time ensure high bending strength.

Our aim when printing signs and photos on aluminum dibond is to only sell them if we would hang them in our living room ourselves. And since printing is our passion, the bar is set very high.

This is also the reason why we only print on aluminum composite panels with an extra-strong aluminum cover layer. The thickness of the cover layer and the varnish determine the print quality and stability of the panel.

That’s why we never use aluminum composite material with a top layer that’s only 0.1 mm or 0.2 mm thick! See for yourself how good our aluminum Dibond panels are – quality at a fair price!

Why should you print on aluminum composite panels

Aluminum composite material is very stable and bend-resistant, but still lightweight and Dibond has only a small thermal expansion when exposed to sunlight. Even with strong temperature fluctuations in summer and winter. These features should convince you if you want your sign or photo plate to be durable and you want to have large-format images or signs printed that are primarily used outdoors.

What material thickness should I use – 2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm or 6 mm?

That depends on how large you want your sign printed and, above all, where you want to use the print or sign.  In general, the larger the sign, the stronger the aluminum composite material. Here are a few examples of typical applications for Alu-Dibond:

• Photo plates, photo prints & image productions made from Alu-Dibond
  For photo plates and photo prints indoors, such as in living rooms and offices, a thickness of 2 or 3 mm is sufficient. For image sizes up to approx. 70 x 100 cm you can use 2 mm. From approx. 70 x 100 cm we recommend a thickness of 3 mm.
• Company signs & office signs made of aluminum Dibond
  For company signs at the entrance, you should choose the 3 mm variant. This material thickness looks best in the classic sizes of 40 x 30 cm or 50 x 40 cm – the printed Dibond is particularly eye-catching with elegant wall spacers.
• Facade signs & construction signs made of aluminum Dibond
  For printed facade signs, we recommend a panel thickness of 2 or 3 mm. The Dibond sign is usually mounted directly on the facade or on a construction at a higher height. This almost eliminates the risk of vandalism. This is why these two material thicknesses are sufficient even for large signs made of several aluminum composite panels.
• Kitchen & shower back walls made of aluminum Dibond
  If you want to use printed Dibond panels as a kitchen back wall or shower back wall, we recommend the 3 mm version. This offers the necessary stability for direct bonding to the wall.
• Signposts and signs made of aluminum Dibond
  If the Dibond sign is in direct reach of people, you should use 4 or 6 mm. In this application, the mechanical stress is the highest. Alternatively, we recommend our super stable  Signicolor  panels made of solid aluminum!

Dibond signs – we print with millimeter precision in the desired size and shape

We print your Dibond sign in your desired size with millimeter precision. From 15 x 10 cm to 300 x 200 cm in one piece. We divide larger signs into several aluminum Dibond panels that you can join together seamlessly during assembly.

You also determine the shape of the aluminum Dibond sign. Classic rectangular or square cut or contour-milled in any special shape imaginable.

Alu-Dibond – 1-sided or 2-sided printed

We print aluminum Dibond signs on one or both sides. Signs printed on both sides with identical prints on the front and back, or with different prints on the front and back. To do this, select “2-sided” in the calculator and then upload a PDF file with two pages in the data upload.

For trade fair use – Alu-Dibond with B1 certification

Optionally, you can order the 3 mm version of the aluminum composite panel with B1 fire protection certification. The B1 certificate is mandatory when using signs and prints in public areas.

That is why the fire protection certified version of the aluminum composite panel has a light, mineral core instead of the black plastic core made of polyethylene.

When ordering, select the 3 mm material thickness in the online calculator and then the “B1-certified” option.

Retroreflective – Dibond with foil print on Oracal 5600E

In this variant, we use a retroreflective film instead of a white printing film. This means that the print is easy to read in the dark, like street signs. The light from the car headlights is reflected and the background and the print appear as if they were backlit. Please contact your local authority or city administration for information on the installation location.

For this variant, select the 3 mm plate thickness when ordering in the online calculator and then the “Retroreflective” option.
