Hollow chamber panels – ultra-light, stable and weatherproof

What are hollow chamber panels? Hollow chamber panels are a panel material made of polypropylene (PP) – a plastic. The structure of the hollow chamber panel makes it ultra-light, yet very stable and bend-resistant. They are inexpensive, can be printed on using UV direct printing, are weatherproof and can be used outdoors for up to 6 months.

For this reason, we encounter printed twin-wall panels every day in advertising for events, trade fairs or election campaigns! But first, let’s look at the exact structure and advantages of the Akylite® twin-wall panel we use.

Hollow chamber panel – the honeycomb is the highlight

As is often the case, the structure of hollow chamber panels with a honeycomb structure was copied from nature. The honeycomb structure resembles honeycombs from a beehive – just without the honey! The trick is in the structure of the hollow chamber panel: the shape and arrangement of the honeycombs makes it possible to create a stable structure using only a small amount of material. This honeycomb construction creates many small “hollow” air-filled chambers. The panels are therefore not solid material, which explains their extremely low weight.

The honeycomb structure is in the middle of the hollow chamber panel and is covered by a smooth polypropylene layer at the top and bottom. The advantage over conventional multi-wall panels is that the honeycomb structure is independent of the direction of travel. In other words, when printing, you don’t have to worry about whether hollow chamber posters are hung in landscape or portrait format. This is because the honeycombs stabilize the panel in both directions.

When printing on hollow chamber sheets with webs (also called multi-wall sheets), the direction of travel must be taken into account. Since all the webs in the sheet point in one direction, hollow chamber sheets with webs are only resistant to buckling in one direction, namely the opposite direction of travel. The webs must therefore always be aligned horizontally so that the multi-wall sheet does not buckle when attached to the lamppost.

Since it is important to us that our hollow chamber panels and posters can be used flexibly and in a variety of ways, we only use hollow chamber panels with a honeycomb structure.

The UV-resistant print does not fade and people do not look as if they are sick after just a few days.

  out of the hollow chamber panel after printing . To do this, we scratch the printed cover layer in the middle and on both outer edges. This creates two foldable tabs, each 5 cm wide, and a center fold. We stick double-sided adhesive tape on the back of the tabs. Now just peel it off and stick it to the window.

Lightweight hollow chamber panel – easy transport and installation

The low weight of the hollow chamber posters (600 g/m²) makes them much easier to handle. Hanging them on a lamppost or fence is much easier. A car is also sufficient for transport. Let’s assume you want to advertise your event with 100 DIN A0 advertising boards and load them into your station wagon. Hollow chamber panels save you 210 kg of weight when carrying, hanging and transporting them. Because 100 hollow chamber panels weigh just 60 kg! Classic hardboard with paper weighs an impressive 270 kg.

Hollow chamber panels – easy to attach with cable ties

It’s child’s play to attach to a fence or lamppost. Simply poke a hole in the right place with a stylus (a ballpoint pen will do too ;-)), insert a cable tie, tighten it and your advertising message is hanging. Or you can order the appropriate holes at the same time.
